Our Zomes, or Nests, are akin to an improved Yurt:
Easier to assemble, Fire resistance & Energy Efficient.
Nimble Nest offers a Shelter between temporary tent and permanent cabin.
Local < 150 km | Fire‑Safe | Compostable | Zero‑VOC
‘Nimble Nest’ is now part of the 2025 cohort of the Circular Economy Venture Incubator ‘Project Zero’ !
As they opened to BC wide last year, we are their FIRST and ONLY venture outside Vancouver region !!
Zonohedron shape.
Why a Zome?
Imagine a shelter that feels cathedral‑spacious inside, yet packs flat in the back of a pick‑up. A 20 ft Zome delivers 70 % more interior volume per wall plank than a boxy shed and drops exterior surface area by roughly 18 %, which means warmer winters and cooler summers.
Panel Anatomy
Six unique panels repeat ten times to complete the 60‑piece shell. Each piece is made from local cedar off‑cuts, filled with mycelium insulation (Class A fire rating), skinned outside with rammed‑earth tiles, and finished inside with breathable clay panels. All materials originate within 150 km of Slocan, keeping carbon low and dollars local.
We aim to scale our offering into 3 models and 3 sizes:
Greenhouse, Sauna and Cabin in 8’6” diameter, 12’ and 20’ diameter.
Better than a yurt or a dome
Why Zomes Win?
Tired of canvas that rips and domes that need cranes?
Zomes give you real‑home comfort with tent‑level freedom.
Two people click‑fit a 12‑ft Nest in under three hours—no heavy gear, no flatbed, no permit. When it’s time to roll, the shell stacks flat in a hatchback.
This freedom to relocate on one’s own terms lets people priced out of land ownership easily move until they can afford property.
Built from a minimal palette of healthy, non-toxic materials—such as sustainably sourced wood and future mycelium-based insulation—our structures are safe for occupants and the planet. Components can be reused, repurposed, or composted, reflecting a cradle-to-cradle philosophy.
By simplifying construction and prioritizing regenerative resources, Nimble Nest empowers communities with flexible, eco-friendly housing solutions.
Radically local materials
Every Nest is built from a five‑ingredient recipe that we can source within a day’s drive of Slocan, BC:
Rammed‑earth exterior tiles — valley sand + clay, sealed with raw linseed oil & beeswax for a 90 % boost in water resistance.
Cedar frame — FSC off‑cuts from Kootenay sawmills; naturally rot‑ and bug‑resistant.
Mycelium insulation — hemp‑hurd substrate inoculated on site; ~R‑3.5 per inch and Class‑A fire behaviour, yet fully compostable after service life.
Interior clay panels — local quarry clay regulates humidity and emits zero VOC.
Wood‑dowel joinery — we swap most metal fasteners for hardwood pegs and jute lashings, so the whole shell can be recycled or returned to the soil.
Ninety‑plus percent of each Zome’s mass originates within 150 km, cutting transport emissions and keeping money in regional supply chains.
